Although the Chardonnay grape reached its greatness
in France, it is now a citizen of the world. It produces the worlds
leading white wine and it is no wonder. It is capable of producing
a wine of simplicity and sophistication, polish and charm, complexity
and delicacy. It is easy to grow, malleable in the cellar, responds
well to the seasonings of oak and can grow distinctive with age.
The Chardonnay vine is an early-budding variety, so it must be protected
from spring frosts, however it is sturdy enough to stand up to cold
winter temperatures. It can ripen to high sugar levels, it is adaptable
to many different kinds of soils, and it is vigorous and easy to
grow.
On the down side, it can be vulnerable to diseases such as powdery
mildew, fan leaf, grey rot, and Pierces Disease.
Because of its vigour, it must be trained on trellis systems and
its leafy canopy must be managed to curb excessive growth, which
can inhibit ripening.
Of all the classic white grape varieties,
none produces such a diversity of aroma as Chardonnay. This is due
in part to the wide range of climates and conditions in which it
is grown, but also to the large number of winemaking options available
during its production. We have selected 12 of the most commonly
encountered Chardonnay aromas for this kit. There are scores of
other aromas for you to discover; all part of the attraction of
this complex and varied wine.
The aromas in this kit are: Vanilla, Oak/Cedar, Butter, Melon,
Honey, Fig, Smoky/Toasty, Apple, Citrus, Peach, Nutty, Butterscotch
We use a food-safe preservative in our aroma formulations to maximize their stability and shelf-life.
There still will be a slow deterioration in the quality of aromas over time; some more than others.
If the bottles are re-capped immediately after each time they are opened and stored away from excessive heat and light, then this process would normally be measured in years.
If stored/used incorrectly, then this will obviously happen more quickly.
We haven't yet put a 'definitive' shelf-life limit on our products because our own internal quality control checks are yet to detect an appreciable difference with time in the aroma quality! Also, we have had no consumer complaints or product returned due to concerns over premature loss of quality over time. Nonetheless, we are constantly striving to improve and expand our products. If an aroma does exhibit a loss of intensity, we will replace it.
